What were you like as a kid? Was there a moment you remember where you were so quintessentially you? What did it feel like? What were you doing? What made it such a classic expression of who you are?
We each have a core essential self. Its expression is so clear, so natural. It’s completely unique to you. No one else has quite the same quality, the same blend: of capacity to care, of creative whimsy, of structure or power.
You are unique, and when you express yourself fully, it’s pure magic, and the easiest thing humanly possible.
But how do you make money doing that? And you can’t do that if it makes someone else feel bad. You need to tone it down. Or do this other thing first. Or justify your beingness with being productive, successful, or admired.
These are stories. Stories that have been piled on by millennia of family, trauma, and societal constructs that are a collective response to misguided means of managing pain, loss, and love that has been tied up in knots.
But that love is trying desperately to get free. To get free through your art. To get free through your gifts to the world. To get free through your love and care for nature, friends, and relatives.
Freedom is what happens when your light has shone fully through all of these constructs. When your light has met the grief within you and said “I see you, I love you, I’m sorry, and thank you for allowing me to shine fully.” When your light meets the light of another and says “I see you, this is me, thank you for seeing me.” Freedom is when your awareness and light can shine out into the infinite cosmos like a beam shining through the darkness of space with nothing keeping it from infinity.
Freedom is the capacity to be fully you. Full stop. Regardless of money, or people’s ideas of what you can or can’t do, or how it should be done. When you are free of these stories, free to be fully you, you can shape the world around you to best express your gifts.
And with this freedom, the love runs free too. To all the beings and all the parts of the world around you that make your life possible. Because contrary to popular opinion, freedom is not an individual act.
We are one. So our freedom is made possible by the plants, and the trees, and the sun and the air. Our freedom is made possible by the bird and whale songs that sing through us, and by the fire and the water that we are born of. Our freedom is made possible by those who have, do, and will care for us and by the love that has been freed within us to care for them too. Because our freedom is served by the whole, the whole is equally served by our freedom and the capacity to love that comes with it.
So what does it look like to be free to be fully you? In that childlike way, where wonder leeds the way? Where your heart feels it all? And where your gift shines through your very presence and all the ways you love the world around you?
Let the ways of the world rest aside and the wounds of others be their own. Your essence is too precious to keep it tucked away. If anything, the world needs it now more than ever.
